The usual training session will be based on a five
day week, Monday through Friday, it will consist of approximately 85%
field
work
and
15% book study. The week will generally go as follows; Mornings we
will discuss the agenda for the day and leave the shop to a designated
farm where we will work on our skills, trimming and shoeing. Afternoons
will be spent in the forge honing our skills making shoes.
Although you may come to learn a particular breed or style of
shoeing, basic shoeing and a balanced foot is the starting point.
Gas forges will be used. Emphasis will be on cold shoeing,
although hot shoeing will be done (agenda providing).
Most lectures will be of the "barn yard" nature. As we examine horses in the field, lectures will pertain to the horse or horses we will be working on that particular day.
